Oats

Traditionally Produced Rolled Oats

100 Percent of Oat Products in U.S. Market Tested Positive for Weedkiller Glyphosate

We test our oats that come from Italy!

Traditionally Produced Rolled Oats

Our rolled oats are grown on a single farm in Italy using traditional and organic methods without any pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers.

As an added assurance they are also tested for the presence of glyphosate and no trace was found in the batch we tested. We have tested many batches of oats from the U.S., including those that are certified organic, and it has been extremely difficult to find sources with no trace of the herbicide glyphosate present.

These oats are processed by a small family-run mill in Texas, and are never subjected to any heat processing, and are truly raw. This mill is dedicated to milling only grains that are free from pesticides and herbicides. Our truly raw rolled oats are:

  • Grown traditionally on a small farm
  • Glyphosate-tested and no trace found
  • Processed in a family mill in small batches
  • Best if stored in the freezer

Whole Grain Oat Groats

Groat is the term used to describe an oat kernel that has the inedible hull removed, but no further processing has been done. It is the whole grain kernel that hasn’t been rolled, cut, ground, heated or processed in any way. The groat contains all 3 parts of the oat including the germ, the endosperm and the bran with all of its high fiber content. Therefore, the groat is the only way to consume oats as a whole food. Oats are naturally high in protein and have the most complete amino acid profile of any grain. They are also very high in fiber, which will keep you feeling full longer.

Groats are also very versatile and are not limited to just the breakfast meal for enjoyment. They are prepared in a similar fashion to brown rice and also make a great substitute for rice. Groats can be used for pilafs, added to cold salads, included in hearty stews, and more. Groats for breakfast can be prepared with milk, cream, fruit and/or maple syrup for a sweet start to the day. Or they can be cooked in a stock, like chicken, for a nice savory breakfast. They can even be run through the blender to be turned into steel cut oats, which will cook a little faster than the whole version.

Our Whole Grain Oat Groats are grown organically in Italy and are traceable back to the farm that grew them. We also tested a sample for glyphosate and none was found.

The bulk whole grain oat groats are packaged in a modified atmosphere bag, which has all of the oxygen removed. They are also tinted blue to block out damaging light. These bulk packaged oat groats will therefore remain fresh for many years to come.

Special Packaging

When Healthy Traditions began to look at producing products in the U.S. from traditional sources, food that tested clean from GMOs, glyphosate, and other herbicides and pesticides, we were faced with a dilemma: How do we package these high quality clean foods?

We began a search for packaging that did not contain harmful chemicals and was not harmful to the environment. What good is sourcing and selling high quality traditional food if it is going to be contaminated by the packaging?

The brown bags you see in our newest products, including our oat groats, reflect what we found was currently the best option for packaging our high-quality line of traditional products.

These bags harmlessly decompose anywhere that microbes are present (salt and fresh water, soil, landfills or in a backyard compost).

They decompose into organic matter without leaving any pollutants behind. (Independent lab tests show – “None Detected.”)

They have been lab tested for possible leaching of many heavy metals and pollutants, and none were found.
